Storing Your Lawnmower

Storing your lawnmower properly can help extend its lifespan, especially during the off-season. Here are some tips for storing it:

  1. Clean It: Before storing, clean the mower thoroughly. Remove grass clippings, dirt, and debris from the deck, blades, and other parts using a hose or scraper. Let it dry completely.

  2. Empty the Fuel Tank: If you plan on storing it for a long period, empty the fuel tank to prevent stale gas from gumming up the engine. You can also add a fuel stabilizer if you plan on keeping the fuel in for a while.

  3. Change the Oil: Check the oil and change it if necessary. Dirty oil can cause engine wear during storage.

  4. Replace the Blades: If you haven’t replaced the blades in a while, now’s a good time. Dull blades can tear the grass, leaving your lawn looking ragged.

  5. Store It in a Dry Place: Store the mower in a shed, garage, or other dry place to protect it from the elements.

  6. Lift It Up: If possible, elevate the mower off the ground to prevent tires from developing flat spots. You can place it on a sturdy piece of wood or hang it.

  7. Check Tire Pressure: If your mower has pneumatic tires, check the tire pressure and inflate them if necessary.

  8. Cover It: Use a mower cover or tarp to keep dust and debris off it while in storage.
