Which Wood Chipper Is Right For You?

21/01/2025

Wood chipper compatibility varies based on several factors, including material types, chipper size, and intended usage. Below are the key compatibility aspects to consider:

1. Material Compatibility

  • Hardwood vs. Softwood:
    • Hardwoods (e.g., oak, maple) require heavy-duty chippers with powerful engines like our TPBeaver or TP1200chip
    • Softwoods (e.g., pine, fir) are easier to process and can work with lighter-duty chippers. Our TP15ESchip, TP800ES and TP600Chipmunk are perfect for this.
  • Branches and Logs:
    • Check the maximum diameter rating of the chipper. Small chippers handle up to 2 inches, while industrial models can process 6+ inches.
  • Leaves and Twigs:
    • Many chippers include shredders or specific settings for finer materials like leaves and smaller twigs.
  • Green vs. Dry Wood:
    • Green wood (freshly cut) may clog smaller chippers; dry wood is easier for most models to handle.

2. Attachment Compatibility

3. Safety and Maintenance Compatibility

  • Blade Sharpening/Replacement:
    • Ensure replacement blades or sharpening services are available for your model.
  • Safety Features:
    • Verify compatibility with protective shields, kickback guards, and emergency stop mechanisms.

4. Size and Portability

  • Small Chippers:
    • Lightweight and portable, suitable for home use with small gardens.
  • Large Chippers:
    • Bulkier but capable of handling bigger jobs, often used by professionals or in agriculture. Our TPBeaverTRK is perfect for professionals. Here we have our monster TPBeaver on a tracked system making it perfect for all terrains.
